4 SEO Tips to Improve your Product Pages
With budgets stretched to maximum and and only 5 weeks left of Christmas Shopping before final shipping dates, here are 4 FREE things you absolutely NEED to be including on your product detail pages to help get your products ranking (aka SEEN!) in Google...Note: The advice is aimed at product based businesses but should absolutely also be used on service based websites too.
1) Use Unique Product Descriptions:
Don't just copy and paste your product descriptions from manufacturer websites. Google ignores 'duplicate content' so if you've copied and pasted from someone elses website, you can guarantee that some of your competitors may have done the same and your page won't rank well in search engines. Write unique, keyword rich copy for all of your products preferably with a minimum of 300 words per page.
2) Include Keywords in Page Titles and URLs:
Did you know that Google looks at page titles and URL's when deciding what your page is about? By including focus keywords in your page/product title and in the page URL you're making sure that Google doesn't have to guess what you're trying to sell.
3) Use Descriptive Image URLs and ALT Text:
Uploading an image with a random filename like "img_1234.jpg" means NOTHING to Google, but uploading an image with a DESCRIPTIVE filename can help you rank for that product. Yes...that does mean you may have to re-upload all of your existing product images with SEO friendly filenames...sorry!
4) Don't forget Meta Descriptions
The snippet of text that appears in search engine results generally comes from your Meta Description. If you leave this blank you're telling Google to make up its own. Sometimes this works out ok, sometimes it doesn't! ..By writing your own meta description for each product (and each page!) you're keeping control of how your website is featured in search engines.
…and finally
